East Arlington, Vermont, 20th Century raised feather carving. This singular majestic gray/blue, white, and black colored bird stands atop a driftwood base. It is 25" high, 12" wide, and 21" long. Signed on underside "1/2 size blue heron by P. Zeller".
Note: One of the top two feathers on its head is broken. See photo. It can easily be glued back on when you receive it.
Phillip Zeller was very familiar with the shores of Cape Cod, akin to master carver A. Elmer Crowell. Zeller exhibited for several years at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum's annual Birds in Art Exhibit in Wausau, Wisconsin. His entry from 1979, a kingfisher, was selected for the Smithsonian Institution in 1980.
