Ducati 750 Sport

The photo was taken during the
Paris
motorcycle show of 1972. The new
Ducati 750 Sport
or
750S
created a big stir, as it was based on the machine that brought Ducati the legendary victory at the
200 miles
race of Imola
in
1972
. This was debut race of Ducati’s new 750 desmodromic V-twin, with its bevel driven overhead camshafts. Works riders Paul Smart and Bruno Spaggiari dominated the numerous factory teams in the race, finishing 1st and 2nd on modified race versions of the 750SS streetbike. It gave instant fame to Ducati’s V-twin sporting models –a fame that lasts still today! At the time it was one of, if not the, ultimate Italian cafe racers!
Interestingly, Ducati entered in 2005 the Sport Classics series in production. One of them is the Sport 1000 Sport Classic . This machine is a tribute to the 1973 Ducati 750 Sport that is featured on this nice photo, making this photo a must for any modern or classic Ducati enthusiast!
