    Description

    Up for sale is a
    very
    famous and
    intricately designed
bowl published in the World Famous Baca Book. The book Mimbres Indian Treasure: In the Land of Baca is a fascinating tale about the ancient Mimbres Indians of south-western New Mexico, highlighting their exceptional artistic abilities and cultural habits. It is a personal narrative spiced with historical recollections of early settlers in the area and accented by speculation as to the origin of these talented Indian people. It’s one of my favorite reads on the Mimbres Peoples and within its 352-pages there are photographs and descriptions of the 154 bowls in the Roy Evans Collection as well as many Similitude drawings by R. Evelyn Ross. This Anasazi Mimbres Culture bowl from the extremely prestigious Evans Family Collection is intact with zero restoration just like the day it went into the ground, no breaks or anything other than the standard kill hole in the center to release the spirit in the bowl and the size of one
the nicest Mimbres bowls I’ve ever seen
and with such a strong provenance to add to it
    , it’s simply amazing.
This Stunning Geometric Anasazi Ancient Mimbres Culture Bowl from the Famous Roy Evans Collection is outside of a museum setting about the most famous Mimbres collection in the United States only matches by the Ellison collection. Throughout his life Roy Evans pursued his passion of learning about the people who inhabited the regions of Southwestern New Mexico in earlier centuries. Certainly inspired by the reports and writings from the early archeological expeditions of Bandelier, Cushing, Fewkes, Morris, Cosgrove, Nesbitt and others, Evans and his wife quickly became well known in the area. Like Rodeck, Evans was fascinated by the ancient Mimbres and he excavated many Mimbres sites, accumulating a large private collection. Through the years Evans met and worked with many of the renowned archeologists and scholars studying the region. Over time Evans contributed a tremendous amount of knowledge and he is referenced in many academic papers regarding the Mimbres and Salado over the years and pieces of his collection have been featured in many various publications. Let’s not kid ourselves, in the world of Anasazi and Mimbres collecting provenance is hard to come by, and excellent provenance is even harder to come by and this is one of two collections the other being the Ellison collection that is extremely sought after and almost impossible to get a hold of.
The bowl measures a little less than 7 inches in diameter and is about 3 inches tall and is unrestored in any way, the colors are as vivid as the day it was painted.
