This historic photo was made during the 500cc Senior T.T. on the Isle of Man on the 7

of June 1957. It was the Golden Jubilee TT, as it was 50 years ago the first motorcycle race was organized on that famous Island in the Irish sea. Bob Mac is seen taking the famous jump at

Bob McIntyre wrote in a most impressive way history by winning both the 350cc Junior as the 500cc Senior T.T. on the IOM that year with the 350cc and 500cc Gilera fours. He became the first man to lap the
Isle of Man
T.T.
Mountain
circuit with an average speed of over
100 mph
! Impressively, the Senior T.T. was an 8 lap race! This photo shows Bob during that very special race.
Bob finished 2
nd
in the 500cc world championship and 3
rd
in the 350cc world championship that year. He also established a great series of world records on the
Monza
autodrome circuit late 1957. On a 350cc four he broke the hour record with an average speed of
141 mph
!
The Gilera 500cc four-cylinder racer was a perfectly engineered racing machine that knew immense success throughout its model life. Bob could have become a world champion in 1957. It was a close call between him and his Gilera team member Libero Liberati, who ultimately won the 500cc world championship.
