    Description

    WE
    ARE
    CLEARING OUT OUR ARCHIVES!
A superb and rare photo of the
    1963
    Harley-Davidson XLCH Sportster
    .
    The forefather of the
    Sportster
, which was the side valve Model
    KH
, received an overhead engine in 1957. It had the same 883cc displacement of the KH,
This was the official start of a completely new supersport model series: the H-D
    Sportster
    was born!
    Shown is the racy
    XLCH
, which engine featured a higher compression ratio, stronger gears, bigger ports and valves, TT pipes, magneto ignition and better engine sealing compared to the standard Sportster.
Cosmetically the XLCH also differed from the XL, as it was initially meant as a competition scrambler.
Perhaps the most noticeable visible differences with the standard Sportster were the small peanut shaped fuel tank (borrowed from the 125 Hummer), the bobbed rear fender and highly valance-free front fender, headlight nacelle, tin primary cover and knobby tires.
By the time this photograph was taken, late 1963, the XLCH was available in two versions, an on-road version and an off-road version.
The photograph shows the 1963 XLCH in an interesting setting, completely in tune with HD ‘s “jet silhouette“ style advertising campaign from that era.
This is a very nice and very rare photo that reflects a wonderful era of Harley ‘s motorcycle history in a wonderful way. This is your rare chance to own this photo, therefore it is printed in a nice large format of ca. 8" x 11.8" (ca. 20 x
    30 cm
). It makes it perfectly suitable for framing!
Shipping costs will only be $ 7.00 regardless of how many photos you buy.   For 5 or more photos, shipping is free!
