    Description

A superb and rare photo of the
    1965 74 c.i.
    Harley-Davidson
    FL
    Electra Glide
, photographed during a publicity shoot aimed at the 1965 Holliday Season.
As we can see, like today, there was an immense choice if you wanted to dress up your Electra Glide to your own personal taste. Shown are a number of accessories that are not to be found today. It is a historic photograph, not only was it used during the original publicity campaign of this new historic model, it also shows the Electra Glide in its first year of production - the only year that the Electra Glide was available with the Panhead engine!
In 1948 H-D introduced the OHV
    Panhead
    engine model series.
    The
    Hydra Glide
, which followed a year later in 1949, also featured the new Panhead engine but it had something completely new to offer: the
    Hydra Glide
    hydraulic suspension front fork.
In 1958 the Hydra Glide was succeeded by the
    Duo Glide
, which had received a number of engine modifications but, more importantly, unlike the Hydra Glide the Duo Glide did not have a rigid rear end.
It featured however a swingarm with two hydraulic shock absorbers.
    In
    1965
    the
    Electra Glide
    was introduced, replacing the
    Duo Glide
    .
Most important change from the Duo Glide was the 12 Volts Electric Starter.
Hence the name Harley-Davidson FLH or FL
    Electra
    Glide

This photo shows the 1965 Electra Glide in all its glory.
