photographed during a publicity shoot in 1948.
It is a lovely image, it was used during the original publicity campaign of the all new 1949 Hydra Glide model!
In 1948 H-D introduced the OHV
Panhead
engine model series.
The
Harley Davidson
FL Hydra Glide
, which was introduced in 1949, also featured the new Panhead engine but it had something completely new to offer: the
Hydra Glide
hydraulic suspension front fork, well shown on the photo. The Hydra Glides were produced on the
3
rd
floor
of
Juneau Avenue
plant in
Milwaukee
and only the model year 1949 featured the black color on the lower front fork legs.
