Description
A superb photo from the original negative, taken before the Isle of Man T.T. of 1948. It is a really great shot of the great legendary Italian racing rider Omobono Tenni. It was Tenni's first time since 11 years that he raced on the Isle of Man.
To everyone’s astonishment he set a new record lap of nearly 89mph in the Senior T.T. class with this mighty 500cc Guzzi Bicilindrica.
Omobono was on his way to win the race but it wasn’t meant to be.
On the fifth lap the spark plugs and the brakes of his Guzzi failed.
Omobono was forced to retire, which was very hard to take for him.
The wide angled 500cc Bicilindrica, which wasn’t a V-twin, was thoroughly modernized that year by Antonio Micucci.
It was a very modern machine with its lightweight hydronalium rear frame that completed the main central beam chassis structure that also doubled as an oiltank.
Suspension was top notch, the front hydraulic fork was very advanced, as were the hydraulic shocks under the engine that formed the rear suspension.
The Bicilindrica was still one of the most versatile G.P. racers at the time, and Tenni proved that as no other.
This is a very historic
non period
